For many Singaporean, start-ups and entrepreneurship are often seen as daunting. Venture building, for myself, it is uncharted territory as well. I have my doubts too. The prospect, the importance and how do the program aid, the participants like myself, grow, was introduced to us. I am thrilled to be part of such significance, to be able to learn from different experienced personnel and listen to their insights.

An idea when made into a reality, which in turn, creating a business that might be seemingly irrelevant to other ideas and reality. However, in an ecosystem that encompasses various ideas and business that may seem different, they are all intertwined together. This concept surprises me much. I have thought about the logistic chain and how these different businesses and ideas might have a link of two, however, the strength of the link surprises me. I’ve learnt that two seamlessly irrelevant ideas, could be linked and create something even bigger.

A question of “what is your purpose in life” was asked to the participants. For me, I have never thought about “what is my purpose in my own life”. I reflect upon myself and begin thinking about “what is my purpose in life”. So far, it is still hazy. Four quadrants of thinking style include analytical, structural, conceptual, and social. Dr Lin mentioned about how there is a dominant thinking style elicit by different people. Through this dominant thinking style, we can identify the ideal manner to speak to different kinds of people. Furthermore, we can understand and know ourselves even more. Through CAP, I have managed to identify myself as a multimodel thinking being. By identifying the thinking model that I am most comfortable with, I manage to understand some actions and some decisions that I made in the past. Knowing oneself is never an easy task when we can look at our decision and reflect upon it and understand why we made such a decision, prevent us from making another similar mistake. I manage to do something that the “past me” rarely thinks about “What is my purpose in life?”. Although, it might be hazy now.

By starting small, for the next week, I would like to dive in deeper into the area of the startup. Currently, I have little knowledge of start-ups or finance, the procedure, the know-how and the terms from finance. There are pieces of knowledge that I would need to go to the library, sit down and read relevant references to get a deeper understanding. For myself, when I was listening to what Edward and Dr Lin speak, there are many terms and concept that I have a rough idea of what it is, but, not a thorough understanding of it. I think that for myself to learn from different mentors and understand their insight, at least a basic knowledge and terminology so that I can understand even quicker and ask questions of relevance.
